Watching Football – 3D Animated Cartoon

This was created as the final project for my 3D Character Animation class. The purpose of the exercise was to show changes of emotion in the character. I could have stopped after the first 12 seconds, but, needless to say, I decided to have a little fun with it.

I dare say, my video production education and experience played a roll in crafting this piece. I staged, lit, and directed the camera shots and moves the way one might in making a video.

I used rigged models from www.highend3d.com to create this animation. However, I actually modeled the environment, lighted the scene, and animated everything in Maya. I even shot the football game footage a while back, and then added an effect to make it a little more cartoony.

Photo Album 3D Model Animation

This animated photo album is part of a video which I produced called “A History of Habitat” which is an extended interview piece. As Chrys Street and other founders talks about how they started the NW Metro Atlanta Chapter of Habitat for Humanity, the camera scans the pages of the 3D Modelled photo album to illustrate the story. This clip is the final animation of the book as the piece ends.  The full video can be viewed at https://youtu.be/N5sfYrlMiJg

The book was modelled in Maya, but textured and animated using the Element 3D plugin in After Effects.

Runway Model Walk Cycle

This was done as an assignment for my 3D Character Animation class. I had to analyze and work out out the movements of a “personality walk” all on my own. I chose to do a runway model walk cycle. I was actually surprised to find that a runway model walk is probably one of the most unnatural series of movements one can imagine–and yet, done right, it looks so flowing. I have a new respect for runway models. I had no idea.

This was done in Maya using a free rigged model from www.highend3d.com. This was one of the few models available wearing high heels (I had to modify her to put a ‘body suit’ on her). Needless to say, you really can’t do an effective model walk without high heels.

Possum Bob 2D Screen Popup Graphic

These little ‘bugs’ were last minute animations created for the Rotary Club convention. They were basically little popups that were uploaded to our Chyron, and we would bring them up on the edge of the projection screen periodically during the event. The third animation is a looping image.

I created the image in Adobe Illustrator, and animated using After Effects.
